Welcome to Bookman Designs! We’re a small (two person, six cat, and one dog) company located in the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York.  The work we do is inspired by the belief that the world is driven by creative energy; to be able to actively engage in that creative energy while living in a beautiful part of the world is something that we are truly grateful for.

While our designs are rooted in the time-honored Adirondack tradition we are capable of working in a variety of styles and are always exploring new ideas. Items represented in our gallery are just a sampling of what we can do.  The majority of our work is custom and we work closely with our clients to create pieces that best compliment their unique tastes.

Save the date

It’s official — Bookman Designs will be represented at the Adirondack Museum’s Rustic Furniture Fair this year.  (This will be our 9th year at this show.)  Located on the museum’s beautiful grounds in Blue Mountain Lake NY, the show dates are September 14 & 15.  We’ll post more information as the date approaches.  We hope to see you there!

Our radioactive cat

At 15 Jasper is definitely the matriarch of our little clowder of cats.  Nearly 3 years ago she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which we’ve been successfully treating with medication.  In searching for a more permanent solution our vet recommended Thyro-Cat, a group whose logo is a cat with a glowing red thyroid.  The treatment consists of an injection with radioactive iodine, a substance that attacks the tumor that’s growing around her thyroid while leaving the gland itself undamaged.  She had this done on Tuesday the 8th and while she doesn’t glow (which if kind of too bad because that would be cool) she is responding wonderfully.  With any luck she’ll be medication free in a few months.  This is her enjoying her new bed.  Here’s to many more years together!

The new year

We started the New Year in one of our favorite ways — with a walk / snowshoe deep into the woods.  The day was cold (around 18F), clear, and full of chickadees.  It gave us the chance to get out and work off some of those Christmas cookies!  We hope the beginning to your New Year was as enjoyable.
